Car is designed by Chris Hampson (a freelance industrial designer) and
Chris Major and built by Brian Wingfield (DRL Engineering, Jaguar D-type
replicas) and built for Anthony Bamford (1st owner).
The car was built in 1990 for a British Ferrari collector who felt that
his 250GTO was becoming too valuable to risk on holiday trips to the
south of France and so decided he needed something which captured the
spirit of one of Maranello’s best ever creations. Using styling cues
taken from a number of sources ranging from the 250LM to Jaguar’s
lightweight E type the designers (who were conveniently discovered
within the owners company) came up with their idea of what might have
been, had a new GTO been introduced later in the 1960’s. The car is
based on a shortened 400i chassis and the overall effect is very
purposeful looking and apparently great fun to drive. The original
styling model was finished in red but the car was painted a dark
metallic blue when completed. MR have done a very good job on the shape
of the car and the level of finish shows them to be absolutely at the
top of their game.
